We will attempt to post pictures from various events that the HRPYP participates in throughout the year in this section. Please click on a thumbnail below to show a full size image (will appear in a new window).

Atlantic Outdoor Sports & RV Show

The Youth Program has been involved with this show at Exhibition Park for over 10 years, providing peace of mind for exhibitors and production staff. Pictured above is the main arena during site setup.

Captain Bishop causally jokes with show staff while overseeing Youth Program Communications & Operations for the event.

OIT Blatch takes a break from his shift. Did he eat all of that pizza himself?

Cst. VanEmber

Cst. VanEmber was a founding member of the Halifax Regional Police Youth Program who has gone on to start a career with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Photo was taken for graduation in Spring 2004. Cst. VanEmber has been posted to Portage, MB.

Great Canadian Picnic

A member takes fingerprints at a Child Identification Clinic during Canada Day Celebrations on the Halifax Commons.

International Buskers Festival

A view of one of the stages (and large crowds) during the Halifax International Buskers Festival. The Youth Program assists HRP with the event on an annual basis.

International Buskers Festival

Lft. Colonel Arthur discusses the Operational Plan for the event with the HRP Sergeant I/C of the shift.

Halloween (2004) - Riverbreeze Farms

The Youth Program decided to take a little road trip to get away from the busy city just shortly before Halloween. We visited Riverbreeze Farms and participated in their 4 mile Corn Maze.

This group was the first of three teams to make it out of the maze. As a result they won free icecream (which they made well known)

Halloween (2004) - Riverbreeze Farms

There were many other agricultural exhibits in addition to the Corn Maze. I don't think Cpl. Martin (foreground) has ever seen a live calf before.

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

OIT Blatch (dressed as a narcotics officer) apprehends OIT Donovan (dressed as a drug dealer) at our annual Halloween Party

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

S/Sgt. Danch attempts to eat an entire dried fish. Can you say yummy?

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

OIT Donovan attempts to eat several "green eggs" as part of his challenge.

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

Recruit Hubley attempts to eat the "Volcano" spiced chilly. He manages to down it in 30 seconds flat ... but it manages to come back up in about 3.

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

OIT Donovan goes diving through a tub of fish heads, blood "worms", and various other unidentifiable materials in search for a prize.

Halloween Party (2004) - Fear Factor Style

A special challenge was given to OIT Blatch. It seems that he has a fear of CHEESE. Not just stinky cheese... but all cheese. We attempted to get him to eat Blue Cheese, Cottage Cheese, and Chedder Cheese Slices... but as you can see it wasn't staying in his mouth long.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Fire Building

Recruits gather for a lesson instructed by Lft. Colonel Arthur and Major Laing on how to build and start a fire with only (1) ONE Match.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Fire Building

Major Laing explains how to properly build a fire in the wilderness and points out types of materials that shout be used.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Fire Building

A squad attempts to light their fire -- with the only match they have!

Recruit Camp (2004) - Fire Building

Sucess! We have FIRE! A group of recruits have properly demonstrated how to build and start a fire using only (1) ONE match -- in the freezing cold -- when it is starting to snow may I add. :)

Recruit Camp (2004) - Fire Building

Now that the fire is lit Major Laing begins to explain what we are having for lunch.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

Major Laing explains the Lunch menu to the recruits. As part of their training the recruits are given the challenge to boil water in a aluminium foil bowl over an open fire.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

Major Laing shows how to create the bowl and properly add the water.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

You thought waiting for a watched pot to boil was tough... how about an aluminium bowl over an open fire?

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

Is it done yet? We shouldn't have stayed up so late last night. It would have been fine if we didn't have to get up and do drill at 5am!

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

Cst. Hobeck and Cst. Lillington gather to give their advice on outdoor cooking to the recruits. Something to the effect of "will you cook mine for me please?" if I recall.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Lunch Preparation

Sucess! We have boiling water!

Recruit Camp (2004) - Supper

Members gather inside the cabin awaiting supper to be served (primarily due to the 12 inches of snow which has fallen during the day!). Members have to be careful not to speak or put their elbows on the table during meals, or else...

Recruit Camp (2004) - Supper

...you may end up eating while sitting on the floor!

But it still tastes great even if you didn't have a comfortable seat.

Recruit Camp (2004) - Team Building

Recruit Saleh participates with his squad in a team building event. How many inflated balloons can be stuffed into these oversized clothes? They set the record at a wopping 37!

Recruit Camp (2004) - Most "Senior" Member at Camp

Major Bradbury poses for the photographer. Is that snow on him or is it just the grey hair? (he is the oldest member after all)

Recruit Camp (2004) - Campfire

Due to the severe weather conditions outside, we were forced to conduct an indoor campfire. An "anonymous" recruit gets inducted into the legendary "Cow Club"

Holiday Parade of Light

Youth members form up at the Holiday Parade of Light in downtown Halifax. They will be responsible for assisting HRP with traffic and crowd control during the event.

Christmas Dinner & Dance

Major Laing "busts a move" during the Youth Program's annual Holiday Dinner and Dance.
